David Zimmer is the Member of Provincial Parliament for the Ontario riding of Willowdale. He was first elected in October of 2003.
A lawyer by profession, David is currently the Parliamentary Assistant to the Attorney General and has served on a number of committees in a range of capacities, including Chair of the Cabinet Committee on Legislation and Regulations, Vice-Chair of the Cabinet Committee on Community Affairs Policy and Chair of Toronto Caucus.
David has a distinguished record of service to Ontario. Before entering politics, he served as Chair of the Toronto Community Housing Corporation, Assistant Deputy Chair of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada and as President of both the Toronto and Canadian Alzheimer’s Society. In 1993, Mr. Zimmer was awarded a Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation for his significant contribution in promoting research and awareness of Alzheimer's disease.
David continues to play an active role in the Willowdale community. He sits on the "Rebuilding Lives" cabinet committee of St. John’s Rehabilitation Hospital. He is also a member of the North York Historical Society. In 2005 David received the Social Work Doctors’ Colloquium’s inaugural Award of Merit in recognition of his contributions to building a caring and just society. In 2007 David received A Special Award for Leadership in Animal Welfare from the World Society for the Protection of Animals. In 2008 David received the Professional Engineers of Ontario President’s Award for his contributions to advancing the engineering profession in Ontario.
