Ontario Supports Police Services In Toronto McGuinty Government Delivers On Community Safety

NEWS

David Zimmer, MPP for Willowdale, says today’s announcement from the McGuinty government that it is delivering on its commitment to fund additional police officers in the province is “good news for Willowdale.”

"Community safety remains a key priority for the McGuinty government. I am pleased that the government is continuing to support policing in Toronto," said MPP Zimmer.

The Ontario government will provide the city of Toronto with over $6.5 million dollars to provide for an additional 501 front-line police officers for the Toronto Police Service.

Premier McGuinty has committed $68 million in annual funding to help communities hire over 2,000 additional police officers across the province through two initiatives: the Policing Partnerships and the Safer Communities - 1,000 Officers Partnership Program.

"Ontarians deserve safe communities. We made a commitment to help communities hire more police officers and we continue to deliver on that commitment," said Community Safety and Correctional Services Minister Rick Bartolucci.
